Pain Relief Tips

Got Pain?

Have you ever felt pain?

Underlying every pain exists inflammation. Whether it’s a toothache, a twisted ankle, or merely an achy feeling.

TV has trained us to reach for a pill to cure our woe’s.  Have you ever taken pills to try to ease your pain?  I know I have, but only when its been intolerable.  Because…

Do you know the negative impact of anti-inflammatory drugs?  Some side effects are bleeding, constipation, decrease appetite, depression, diarrhea, headache, increased risk of heart attack, kidney failure, and liver failure.

Yet, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are some of the most commonly prescribed drugs.  More than 100 million prescriptions for NSAIDs are written annually in the U.S.  It is estimated that more than 30 million people worldwide take anti-inflammatory medications on a daily basis, not including over the counter ones like aspirin.

The following provides you with a list of suggestions that will help you to embark on your path of wellness and rejuvenation.

We can feel better by avoiding things that stimulate inflammation.

1.  Sugar

2.  Omega 6 Fatty Acids (found in oils such corn, safflower, sunflower, grape seed, soy, peanut, and vegetable; mayonnaise; and many salad dressings)

3.  Refined carbohydrates found in white flour products (breads, rolls, crackers) white rice, white potatoes (instant mashed potatoes, or french-fries)

4.  Food additives MSG (mono-sodium glutamate) – flavor-enhancer (Most commonly found in prepared Asian food and soy sauce, but it can also be added to fast foods, prepared soups and soup mixes, salad dressings and deli meats.)  Aspartame trying to go sugar-free? (found in more than 4,000 products worldwide. It is a neurotoxin, which means it affects the brain.)

5 .  Gluten (found in wheat, rye, barley and any foods made with these grains.)

6.  Alcohol

There are yummy natural remedies without all the horrible side effects.

Researchers at McMaster University have discovered just a brief 10-minute massage reduces inflammation in muscle.  They find it also triggers biochemical sensors that can send inflammation-reducing signals to muscle cells.  In addition, massage signals muscle to build more mitochondria, the power centers of cells, which play an important role in healing.

Massage works quite differently from NSAID’s and other anti-inflammatory drugs, which reduce inflammation and pain but may actually retard healing.  Massage can suppress inflammation and actually enhance cell recovery.

Many people come to the Big Island of Hawaii for healing. The minute you step off the plane the healing begins. You head to your hotel, which just about all the hotels in the islands have spas and offer massage.

Driving south from the Kona airport, you pass through very lush and green little towns. In the district of South Kona you enter the town of Kealakekua. Just past the Antiques and Ice Cream store, nestled in off the main road on the right is Palani Terrace. This is where you will find Swami’s.

Swami explains here work in the following way:

Swami's Healing Arts“I focus on the WHOLE person, working with the triangle of health (physical, emotional, and chemical). Because the foods we eat and also our emotions/thought we think play a big role in how we feel.

When people come to me for relief, I use a combination of muscle testing (Touch for Health) and Hawaiian Lomilomi Massage to connect with the person’s innate wisdom. Your muscles will tell you why you don’t feel well and what to do about it.”
